Horseshoe Bay Resort

Aug 18th 2008

The other weekend the wife and I made it out to Horseshoe Bay Resort out near Lake LBJ. If you happen to be a tennis person they have some really nice clay courts. Good stuff considering it’s Texas! It was a really good long weekend, I could definitely recommend it if you happen to live near the area but just dont want to drive or fly hours and hours away for some quiet time. The Champagne and chocolate covered strawberrys werent to bad either :-)

Big Ol’ Wall Prints

Apr 25th 2008

The wife and I are pretty much done with some of the house renovations.  On the picture-side of things I’ve actually gotten around to putting some of our recent trips on the wall.  Here are a couple of large 20×30 framed pictures from our cool New Years excursion to NY City.  Once you get these things in some decent frames these two really add a little zip to the room.  Enjoy!

House Work

Mar 31st 2008

So most of all day Saturday was spent working on the new sink.  I’ve never done anything like this before and after watching my friend Jason help get the old sink out I thought it wouldnt be that bad to attach the new one.  Well, I was sorta wrong!  After three trips to Home Depot, numerous variations on plumbing, and a borderline pyschosis I made it through - with a shiny new sink apparatus.  Now onto the the bathroom sink!  I cant wait!

Posts and Updates

Mar 20th 2008

Ok, so I promise to pick it up with some new pics on the blog.  In the meantime I wanna move your attention to some other favorite sites of mine.  Just recently I found out about director Tarsem Singh’s new production finally about to make it’s theatrical release… The Fall. My gosh, this thing looks cool! And beautiful!
**
In climbing related news the fellas over at Bigupblog.com finally updated with alot of new news on their recent productions from Flagstaff to Yosemite Valley.  Many a cool blog entries!
 **
Lastly, is a minor update on my favorite band The Black Keys.  They changed their front page and added a new track on Itunes.  Their new album drops on April 1 and like any good music fiend I’ll probably be one of the first to download and have it playing repeatedly in my car.  I would like to stress “repeatedly” :-)

Getting Creative

Mar 19th 2008

One thing I’ve been wanting to post on is some of the things that get’s me “creatively going”.  What I mean are some of the artists who’s web sites I enjoy spending some quality time on.  Of late, this photog out in California by the name of Anna Kuperberg just consistently rocks out some amazing images.  In my mind alot of photographers get rather crazy with their post processing and really push their images to extremes.  Anna really takes a step back and lets the emotion and the playfulness of her subjects shine.  Locally, here in the Austin, TX area, is this cat by the name of Jake Holt.  Another portrait & wedding photog but someone who I can tell has a great rapport with his subjects.  Again, someone who I can tell doesnt get crazy with post processing and just knocks out beautiful images.  A international photog whose web site I came across a few years ago is Maciej Dakowicz.  “A photographer based in the UK”  this guy is the reason I eventually moved over to the Canon 5D.  Maciej finds the beauty in some of the poorest places in the world, to say that his images are striking is a great understatement, the’re unwieldly amazing.
**
Hope some of you guys who frequent this site find a little time and check out some of these other photogs.  I’m sure you wont be disappointed.

Sick, Sick, and still Sick

Mar 12th 2008

Here I am, Wednesday, March 12th and still sick.  I finally submitted to the illness and decided to see the doctor yesterday.  Sure enough I have an ear infection that doesnt seem to want to subside.  All I want to do is enjoy some of this stellar weather.  Instead I stayed in and watched 30 Days of Night on DVD last night.  I have to admit it was pretty good.. A little gruesome but very watchable.  On better news my wife is making leaps and bounds in the small renovations we’ve been doing to the house.  On the agenda this week has been painting of the interior.  It’s pretty much all done and really impressive how different the house looks now.  I might have to share some pictures of the project coming together.  Next on the agenda: new carpet! OOOO!

Big Doggy

Mar 5th 2008

I’m still feeling under the weather and was just backing up stuff I’ve done over the last few months.. Here’s one I did not to long ago.  Just to let some of you people know, I’m in the planning stages of a all day portrait session thingy.  Details and information will follow.. Proceeds from that session are going to a good cause.  Also, if you really wanna keep up with all the new stuff shoot me a note asking me to put you on my mailing list.  I’ll share more things in detail in one of my bi-monthly newsletters and what not.  Cheers!

March Approaches!

Feb 28th 2008

Before I start I would just like to mention I am not an only child - I do have a brother but in the below picture he wasnt even born yet.  Ahhhh! :-)  March is a few days away and I came across this old picture I’ve actually never had seen.   March is significant because = my parents anniversary and all three of our birthdays fall into it.  After I was born my folks (pictured rather rusticly here) relocated our little troop from the boiling temps of Austin, Texas into the far reaches of Fairbanks, Alaska.  My mother (the bandana wearer) and my dad (the hat wearer) are are all smiles and still going strong.  This one is for you guys!  Cheers!

Design + Climbing

Feb 27th 2008

My gosh, what’s the deal with the creepy picture?  To funny, yes, I know!  Central Texas Mountaineers is hosting the 9th annual Texas Limestoner over at the very beautiful Reimer’s Ranch (over off Hamilton Pool Rd).  Below is the shirt I designed for the said event and participants.  The idea the climbing committee gave me was to design in the style of that famous American Gothic painting but with that nice little climbing gear in the middle, as opposed to the famous pitch fork.  It’ll be interesting to see what the finished product is going to look like.  For those of you with a free friday and curious what climbing looks like stroll over here for more details.  It’s always a cool event and all the organizers are really stolked by all the cool prizes they are going to have.  Clinics, slideshows, and much more will be there. Enjoy!

Updates & Misc

Feb 26th 2008

I just wanted to give a quick shout out to all those people coming in and joining the Felimon Foto Blog.  Some small changes are coming to the blog.  Some big changes are coming by way of more updates.  It’s a shame to have such a great resource at my finger tips and not really utilize it fully.  With that in mind I’m going to be “kicking it up” a notch (imagine I’m doing a Emeril Lagasse impersonation!).  Expect to see more updates on a weekly basis, more pictures (my gosh, this should be a given!), more soap boxing, and generally more “everything”!

With the above mentioned I wanted to give a quick shout out to all the things taking up my freetime.  I dont know what it is exactly but flickr has become yet one more thing I can get Obsessive Compulsive over.  It’s definitely a great place to search out photography and their photographers from all over the world. This is a great flickr search tool from the guys at [Airtight].  It looks really, um, basic but type in the word “bike” or whatever floats your boat.  It makes searching a little more interactive.

Yesterday I dropped some hints to my wife about this about a possible bday gift for yours truely.  From sports photographer Brian Solano his climbing doco with Joe Kinder and Chris Linder.  Gosh, this thing looks so sweet! Beautiful climbing in a beautiful locale, nothing can beat that!  Plus having seen Joe Kinder in Autoroute and some older Big Up climbing docos it looks like it’ll have some good humor - the kids to funny!

Cheers!!
